Sasha and Ray share a summer house, and three sisters; Emma, Maddie, and Quinn. Ray and Sasha have slept in the same bed and shared a room for the past 17 years and yet they have never met. One summer will change all of that, and their family forever.
Told in constantly alternating narratives, it can be jarring when there is no warning and you are scrambling to figure out who's head you're in now. However I feel like that is what big dysfunctional families are like. Complicated dynamics, witty humor and lovable characters--Everything I have come to expect and love from Ann.

mmm yeah the writing (prose wise) was good but I read some reviews and I'm not really sure that I want to continue…also, I know that ray and sasha aren't blood related, but I still feel like they're too close family-wise to date://///

Really 3.5 stars, but good enough to round up instead of down. I didn't like it as much as The Last Summer of You and Me, but it was still very good. I didn't like the ending and thought it was a bit rushed and the thing with Quinn unnecessary, but it worked. I'm not sure I would consider it a young adult book because although the two 17 year olds were billed as the main players, their drama is by far the least important to the story. It was way different than I thought it would be from reading the book jacket.
Woah nelly. Single sitting read here. I have many thoughts but none coherent.
Except that Ann brashares continues to be obsessed with women with large feet. At least this time around she concedes that size 10 isn't that large and is sure to make the large footed girl a size 11.
Yes, that is what I think about.

This book was definitely much less light-hearted than I expected. I never really felt a connection to any of the characters, either.
I enjoyed the writing and the story, but found it difficult at times to keep track of the changing perspectives and the complicated family dynamics.
I was a bit reluctant to start reading this book and it was a very spontaneous pick up. In fact I actually saw quite a few negative comments about the book however I found that I disagreed with a lot of them. I didn't find the family tree confusing and I was soon wrapped up in their family dramas. There was a certain moment towards the end of the book which I wasn't expecting and was actually suprised at how concerned I was for the characters. It was packed full of drama, really enjoyed it.
