I'm surprised that a traditionally published, sapphic romance could feel so much like a (okayish) cishet Wattpad story.

The characters are all rather clichee. The bad girl only looking for sex because
she was cheated on
, the good girl being dutiful, the kind of stuck-up step-sister, the loud, sassy friend, the sexist douchebag, the vain step-mother.

Delilah, the main character, felt like a 15-years-old (boy) with her behaviour at times (come on woman, you're 29, it's time to self-reflect). The way the pairing thought about each other (but especially Delilah) felt quite objectifying at times and reminded me of the way men are usually written. I couldn't really connect to their romantic chemistry.

Overall this wasn't a bad read per se, though 2.25 stars may beg to differ. The topic is served right, but there were too many aspects that already bothered me while reading. I guess I read to many (better) Wattpad stories like that in my teenage years, so that a romance like that doesn't impress me much anymore.

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care was the queer love story I didn’t know I needed.

This book is so good! The queer joy, the family dynamics, the cute relationship vibes, the TRUST! Delilah Green absolutely cares about so many things and so many people, and seeing her flourish was so lovely and heartwarming.

Read this book if you love
💜 Sapphic romance
💜 found family
💜 only one bed
💜 grumpy/sunshine
💜 single parent
💜 strong female friendship

This was my first time reading a single parent romance and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! It’s definitely made me more open to other single parent books in the future.

I will definitely be reading the rest of the Bright Falls books. 4.5 stars

I don’t know who I related too more - Delilah or Claire (or even Astrid, actually) but MAN this story tugged at my heart. And it had some goood spice to boot! 🥵 🌶️

Is anyone else into the Enneagram and finds yourself typing characters as you read books?

I went back and forth on Delilah the whole time - either 4w3 or 8w9. By the end I was leaning 8w9. Claire is a 9w1, Astrid a 1w9, and Iris a 8w7. I will take no other opinions, those three are just facts lol

I also tried something new with this read! This was my first experience with audio books and I gotta say… it’s not for me. Full respect to those who prefer them, but I am a paperback, physical copy girlie for life  I only listened to a few chapters off and on near the end of the book while I was at work, but it felt… idk. Emotionless? There just wasn’t the UMPH behind the words that my own brain puts in. I guess I’ll go back to reading just a little slower as time allows for me to pick up my physical books.

I loved this book! I’m a big fan of the best friends trying to break up their other friend and their terrible boyfriend trope and also the estranged sister coming home trope!!!! AND A ONE BED TROPE!!!!! Queer representation everywhere 🫶🫶 read this. Seriously. Right now.
