A little lacking in plot complexity but found the characters to be very believable and relatable and felt the plot synchronized well with the characters and their own issues. Really good for a romance novel with no bit premise.

Was this book perfect? Absolutely not. But I enjoyed it so much.

What I liked:
  • Delilah is SO HOT
  • Delilah is also horribly relatable. She made me feel seen in some slightly painful but not overly traumatic ways. Cool!
  • I LOVE how Claire is a bisexual woman whose love interest is a woman but who is still shown to be meaningfully attracted to men! Seriously the way Claire’s bisexuality was written was very healing for me.
  • Claire is a young MILF
  • Claire’s kid Ruby is great
  • Loved the Parent Trap shenanigans
  • Small town bookstore!
  • Anne of Green Gables discussion!
  • This book takes so much advantage of the fact that both characters are women and therefore in the same part of the wedding preparations all the time while also keeping the exact right amount of sexual tension. This is what sapphic romance should always be!
  • The sex scenes (actually mostly just the one) were really good.
  • Everyone’s outfits were very specific all the time, and that made it easy to visualize things.  I liked it.

Critiques and misc observations:
  • The author seems weirdly allergic to the word “sapphic” for a writer of sapphic romances. I HATE “women and enbies.” Hate it. Just say “sapphic people”! And Delilah is very much a lesbian, but the word “lesbian” was only used once in the book.
  • There is a LOT of drinking in this book. It feels pretty authentic to the setting (I would also drink that much if I had to spend that much time in a high-pressure situation with Astrid and Isabelle), but the sheer quantity of day-drinking definitely feels weird sometimes.
  • Props to the author for always intentionally pointing out characters’ races rather than making white the default, but is that really doing anything when every important character in the book (and every side character in Bright Falls, though not in New York) is white?
  • How are all of these people capable of raising one eyebrow? Most people cannot do that.
