The world seems interesting. This series has potential. This volumes primary purpose seems to be the groundwork on top of which future volumes can stand. I loved Fiona Staple's illustration. Not a big fan of the writing. It's try a bit too hard for my taste. That said, I have high hopes for the future volumes.

This was my first time reading a graphic novel, and it was certainly... graphic! Weird creatures, graphic deaths, sexual content and strong language mean this is definitely not something to leave lying around if you have kids in the house. I was saddened to see the unnecessary use of the R word, but otherwise this was a pretty fun read. It only took an hour or two to blast through it and I'm definitely curious to read more of the story.
