i dont care how praised tolstoy is i hate him i hate him i hate him for how he treats his female characters and for how he treated Sofia Tolstaya!!! how can you in good consciousnness write that your character became a "fertile animal" (not an exact quote, he wrote that about natasha but i dont care enough to look up how it was translated to english) and pose that as a compliment!!! how can teachers defend this creep!!

My god this was a lot. It takes a while for the flow of the story to really set in and make sense. There are just so many characters and situations to get accustomed to. However, at approximately the 300 page mark it turns into a novel that you can't put down. Absolutely interesting and absolutely remarkable.

I tried, honestly I did, but after four parts (there are about 17 or something) it wasn't getting any more engaging. None of the characters really held my attention, the writing about the War didn't improve over the confusing sense of back home in society and his fixation with weird descriptions of the female characters is hard to take. So that's it, gave up. Sorry.
