The Enchanter Heir surpasses The Dragon Heir, offering a refreshingly unique take on the monstrous world of Magic. Worldbuilding flourishes with the introduction of Savants and the lingering mystery of Thorn Hill. Nightshade and Gabriel's shrouded motivations keep you guessing, leaving you hungry for answers.

Familiar heroes like Seph, Jack, and Ellen return in epic fashion, delivering a heart-pounding fight scene. Jonah, a captivating newcomer, shines with his brotherly bond and a potential romance. While his diverse skillset - encompassing enchantment, enhanced physical abilities, and even a poisonous touch - might border on overpowered, his overall awesomeness is undeniable.

I thought I would be distraught because it wasn't really about Jack and the gang anymore but honestly all these new main characters were just as interesting and it was overall a great story with Jack and Ellen taking more of a back seat, while still making themselves relevant. Great plot and nice characters, making it a worthy addition to what we all thought was supposed to be a trilogy!

Another smash book in THE HEIR CHRONICLES! Like the previous books before it, this story stars new characters and seems to belong to an entirely different world, until the magic is wound in. This one is more character driven than focused on the magical element. It's still there and highly important, and focuses on an alternate version of the heir-lore with a more supernatural element.

Jonah and Emma are wonderful characters and I loved meeting them and enduring their many, many hardships and complications, not just with exterior events and peoples, but with each other as well. Jonah's a tormented soul and Emma is a lost girl, and the two of them together were inevitable. Their encounters were some of my favourite moments. That said, I need to state that Kenzie is my favourite character thus far.

There were a lot of surprises, given the dark nature of this story. There was a pretty high body count and the themes were grim ones. Even the music that helped bring Jonah and Emma together is sad and sorrowful.

I really enjoyed this book and was wondering where it was going since there were many things that weren't wrapped up, but it ends on a slight cliffhanger that has me eager for the final book.

Number five child got me interested in this series, and it's pretty good. It was originally planned as a trilogy, and then the author expanded it to what will be six books (unless plans change again). Enchanter Heir is actually book one of a two book intra-series cliffhanger that will continue in November with The Sorcerer's Heir, which leaves the reader with a rather abrupt "wait to see what happens next" sort of ending. Quite unsatisfying, and I wish now that I had waited to read it until November. The other books in the series are more or less stand-alone novels...you don't really need to have read the previous books to understand and enjoy later ones. That this one was an exception caught me by surprise.

The enchanter's heir is are Jonah and/or Emma, though whether or which isn't yet clear by the end of this volume. Music figures prominently throughout the book and there is even a link provided to a collection of music created for the book (found on Spotify, and maybe elsewhere also). The book is also replete with the action, adventure, and fantasy elements that Chima weaves into her stories. Oriented to teens, but if you like your books (as I do) sans Sex and graphic violence, Chima's YA fiction is a pretty good bet.

What a cliffhanger! Took a little time to get my bearings, as most of the characters are new. There are familiar faces but new mysteries. For those of us who thought THE DRAGON HEIR was the end, this is a welcome addition, and we can expect a follow-up novel. Can't come too soon! Loose ends between Jonah and Emma, Jonah and Rowan, with Kenzie, with Allison. What's up with Thorn Hill? What's Emma's true savant gift? Too many questions!
