We take all of the things we hate, the things we can't possibly comprehend, and we pin them on a figurehead so that we can still stand to look at ourselves.

This epic sequel picks up right after the first. Things are starting to form and click, as the story gave me a deeper look and understanding of its dark history. There's abuse of power and religion to control and manipulate the weak. The worldbuilding is expanded upon, it's intense and dark. There's demons, wraiths, the undead and the antagonists are ruthless. There was also more focus on Imari's music magic, which is so unique and detailed.

"So much for such a little person. Maybe I should go ahead and start that bath for you. Help you put it out."

The reunion I've been waiting for. Imari and Jeric really grow and shine in this one. I love how comfortable and easy they are around each other, their bantering and quips gave me life. The slow burn romance that carried over, so WORTH IT and IT WAS HOT!

"Well, hells. This almost feel like cheating." "Your favorite pastime," Chez mused.

I love it when supporting characters add life to a story. You need to meet the Wolf pack. Seriously, I love their camaraderie, banter and I'd run with this pack. Do I also sense Torumund and Brienne vibes within the pack?

Gah, it was just so good, I can't wait for book 3 to release.

God, this series is such a slow burn if you are looking for romance in your fantasy, but I sure do love the suspense.

I’m sorry but once I realized that Imaris’ gift of magic was just like a bard from D&D it became kind of comical every time she used her flute music to subdue evil. Even so, I also found the concept of her using music to soothe the darkness with remnants of the Makers light fascinating.

Anyways, I really enjoyed this book and all the characters in it. We found Imari finally back home in Istraa with her loving brothers and father, but evil is still afoot and their is still suppression against the Sol Velorians (who are basically used as abused slave labor with very low wages to make the elite feel better about themselves). As a healer and half Sol Velorian herself, Imari can not stand how they are being treated but her culture does not allow her to help. Her culture can not know she has magic powers or she will be killed, so she is forced to sneak out and help them with the constant worry of being caught.

And then we have Jeric who trekked all the way to Istraa to save his dying friend and warn Imari about the evil headed her way. I absolutely love their banter. I also love Jerics banter with his friends.

This book kept me in suspense of what would happen next the whole way through. There were no boring parts to get through. I can’t wait to read the next installment.

This was a phenomenal sequel! On pins and needles in anticipation of a much needed reunion. I absolutely love the exciting journey these characters are on. Could Kloss have ended this on a cliffhanger to rival all cliffhangers? Yes. Did she? Thankfully no! This was a wonderfully crafted slow burn romance with some major scares, some incredible spice and all the love I could possibly want. I cannot wait for the release of book three next month!
