Sparks once again manages to start out with a beautifully written encounter between two lovers, just to find the courage to smash all of it into pieces.
I really liked how Amanda and Dawes' relationship blossomed again after they'd lost contact as young adults. I think Dawes got an amazing redemption arc and I would have wished the same for Amanda : I read on someone's review that she never progressed - she always remained obedient to her mother's wishes, which is absolutely true.

I wished she had found the courage to be with Dawes, that he hadn't died in such a meaningless way. Jared deserved to have his life saved but it should not have been at Dawes' expense. He lived all his life for a woman who couldn't stand her ground to defend their love - it was such a waste.
medium-paced
Sooo much better than the movie. I decided a long time ago that I didn't want to read any more nicholas spark books after i watched the movie because they are so different. However, I decided to read this to get it off my tbr shelf, and I loved it. There is so much more detail and just told so nicely
started slow. I started several times and lost interest. when I saw it was going to be a movie I made myself read it. liked it but it was sad.
A very different book to what I normally read, but I actually really liked it. Lots of unexpected elements. I will try to read other genres more often.
This isn't one of Nicholas Sparks' best novels but nevertheless it was a very enjoyable read and had me in tears at the end! Definitely keep the tissues at hand if you decide to read this.
A bit too cheesy, with a dramatic twist (as most sparks books have). Felt a lot like the notebook, but with a different ending.
