Books like this are why the term "speculative fiction" should be adopted. This is not a science fiction book. There is some science, but it is not dwelled upon, nor does it matter much, in a reality much like ours, but with wormholes to alien planets. I doubt if the author bothered reading much scifi at all.

This is a book that probably will be unreadable in about a decade, as it is rooted in our now - of reality TV and best practices for using hashtags in marketing strategies.

This is a very human book, on mental health, depression, and suicidal thoughts. About grief and loss. About making all the wrong choices. Lying to yourself as much as to others, and wishing for an easy way out.

Half the time, I wanted to smack Iris in the face for being so incredibly stupid, but I guess this is what depression is - the irrational smog of poor choices and self destruction.

I've seen many reviews that hated the ending, probably wishing for something that would fit into some easy trope. I felt that it was poetry, and the narrator of the audiobook executed it beautifully. It made me sad but gave me a lot to think about.
