A Native American twist on Pirandellos' Six Characters in Search of an Author, in which 6 Indian stock figures attempt to solve the locked room murder of a white author. No one knows why or how or where they are exactly, and the byplay between the "young warrior brave", the "wise elder", passive suck-up Tonto, and girlishly helpless Pocahontas is pretty funny. Darker notes are sounded by Twain's Injun Joe and Hollywoods' favorite "half breed", Billy Jack. In the 2nd half, each of the 6 is transformed into the sort of person they wish to be, but nothing works out quite as expected. I found the 2nd half hard to follow since (except for Pocahontas) I couldn't figure out which character had transformed into which, but this perhaps works better on stage.

VERY funny, but also quite sad? I'd love to see this performed some day!

I really like this. I wasn't necessarily expecting to since I struggle with satire when I can't hear the live delivery. Then a second act change that I initially expected to dislike kicked the emotional resonance up. At the same time all the thematic work started landing. I finished the play feeling the kind of freaked out that I like to be with theater. I want to see this performed

I definitely liked the first act more than the second on my first read, but digging into the second act more, I really like the message and symbolism being shown. The theme here is, I think, that First Nations people are forced into stereotypes and certain narratives even if they are real people and not just characters in a story. It's definitely something I need to see performed for a more rounded understanding, but I enjoyed reading this.
