I was so excited to read this one after loving The Silent Patient, but it just fell flat for me. For a thriller, it’s pretty slow-paced. I typically like an unreliable narrator, but this one just really grated on my nerves. Almost DNF’d it because it was hard for me to get into and I didn’t feel attached to a single character.

However, I always love how Michaelides includes Greek culture and psychoanalysis into his novels. It’s always special to see parts of an author in their work. I will definitely still be reading The Maidens, and still am a fan of Michaelides, for sure.

I received a ARC from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to Celadon for the physical copy!

What happens when people with complex relationships— full of love and hate for another— get trapped on a remote island overnight?

This book was outside of my normal genre, but I enjoyed it a ton. The story is written in the way one would tell a story to their friend — zig zagging between plot points and timelines. There were so many twists that came about reading it this way. Elliot is the epitome of an unreliable narrator, which made the story that much more fun to read!

A bewitching blend of Agatha Christie, Clue, and Knives Out/Glass Onion. This spectacular performance left me on the edge of my seat at curtain call.
