Pleasant surprise. Book had so much relevant content and exercises/challenges that I really should reread this one in a year or so. Some very useful tips.

Are many of the references dated? Does he constantly refer to all of humankind as “man?” Yes, of course, it was in the 1930s and ew. But as I’m reviewing materials for an upcoming public speaking course there are some old standby’s for a reason. This book is such an excellent resource for laying out technical vocal skills and the end of chapter exercises to practice and highlight the lessons are still so useful and practical.

Very fruitful when it comes to public speaking..It jolted down some amazing concepts which I adore.


Really recommend ,if you want to elevate your standard when we are talking about public speeches....

I'm not going to rate this as I read the first couple of chapters and then skimmed the rest. However, I will say that on one hand, it's amazing this is still in print and still had good advice. On the other hand, a lot of the examples and language are outdated, one particular example was cringeworthy. There are newer books with modern language that would convey the same message.

A lot of it is outdated. Most of the methods mentioned are already known to anyone who has studied about public speaking to some extent.
