In places needlessly bleak, but cinematic in its scope and quality. Good upmarket crime fiction.

Reads like a solid movie. Some dragging moments but the narrative is split between characters and stays interesting. A fun one.
The way it was written I feel like I mistakenly read only half of it. Maybe I just didn't get it. But I feel the "shock" factor is all that compels a person to like this book, thinking it is some edgy dark piece of fiction when it's really just confusing and mostly boring.
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it took place entirely in Vietnam. I thought it really started to slow down in America, and I didn't care about any of the characters. Disjointed, and it didn't really seem to have any direction.
