I really loved this! The writing is intense and visual. It’s dark and thematic and I loved both the characters of Bennie and Esther. Would read whatever Linda Codega writes next!

Really enjoyed the story but the pacing was off and some of the prose is a bit flowery

I enjoyed the strong female characters and it was a unique storyline. The story felt very repetitive and it moved pretty slowly overall. I didn't feel as invested in Esther's timeline, and found myself struggling to read those parts of the story. I enjoyed the setting of the book and reading a story with witchy vibes. I can see how this will work for people but I struggled reading it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. Sooo I initially DNF at 44%, but then I found myself needing to go back and try to finish this book again. Could I have lived without reading the rest of this book…absolutely. I will say that initially I was hooked on this book. I was all in. I liked the setting and the whole Appalachian-witchy vibe. I even liked the main characters. Something happened with the writing like a third of the way in. It just wasn’t interesting anymore. The book ropes you in, then just kind of leaves you hanging. If you want to read a book purely on vibes…this  lowkey might be right up your alley.

I never got hooked into this story and I found parts of it to be boring.
