In my subjective opinion, it was a rough start for me. I didn’t enjoy the audiobook narration’s accent, and as well as the dialogue seemed a bit hokey to me.

I don’t like the narrator. I might try reading the physical book later

Dnf’d this so fast. The narrator’s voice is terrible. Every sentence sounds like she is talking down to you. I really have to do the preview of audiobooks…

3 1/2 stars, rounding down. This was more lit fic than fantasy and it was very well written, but
SpoilerI didn't really buy the deep love that Motheater felt for Bennie, maybe because it came out of nowhere at the end.
I also felt like it fell apart a bit at the end when
SpoilerKire was revealed to be a monster that came out of the mountain rather than being the mountain itself.
It would have been just as strong if not stronger thematically without that.

Still a very enjoyable read, if only for the descriptions of the area and its people / way of life.
