In my subjective opinion, it was a rough start for me. I didn’t enjoy the audiobook narration’s accent, and as well as the dialogue seemed a bit hokey to me.

3 1/2 stars, rounding down. This was more lit fic than fantasy and it was very well written, but

I didn't really buy the deep love that Motheater felt for Bennie, maybe because it came out of nowhere at the end.

I also felt like it fell apart a bit at the end when

Kire was revealed to be a monster that came out of the mountain rather than being the mountain itself.

It would have been just as strong if not stronger thematically without that.

Still a very enjoyable read, if only for the descriptions of the area and its people / way of life.
