slow burn until the last 100-200 pages, where the narrative wraps up nicely and sets up the next group of books. There were also a few parts where I had to look up some questions I had about the plot, where I found out I was not the only one confused.

"The people will look back at muad'dib rule - with its destruction of 61 billion human, 500 worlds , 40 religions- and thought it was a picnic in caladan ."
This book is very similar to the first but different :
Leto's journey to achieve the golden path was like paul's journey but paul was learning and leto was doing .
The complication of factions and parties is very similar but here we have the edge with atreides and fremen and religion while the sradukar and previous emperor lineage is on the bottom , plus we have more factions inside the fremen while the first gives fremen as one .
The first book gives you a look into the paradise of arrakis want to be , while this gives you the destruction arrakis going to be .
This book dives into fremen in a different way gives you the old fremen of Dune and the new soft fremen as an indication to the cliff we are going to in humanity plus the lose of spice and worms to what we thought is paradise which is the greenery, this resembled in stilgar and his chaotic life after paul he is neutral and does not know where to go with old fremen or alia's priesthood and that was good to his character until leto the second paul comes and rule him and all .
-----
What i like in this book is leto and his journey add to it the power that he gets which is super human , and his dedication to the golden path even bending paul to his will .
Duncan and alia , alia's possession was devastating and its like lemon on scar as the book progresses , until its end which was a part of what i want but still heartbreaking, and duncan misery inside this every time he confronts alia until he decides to make stilgar kill him to be against alia .
Jessica and farad'n at some point it was the most interesting part of the book and it was very good and gives another life rather than arrakis , but i can't sense the goal of this training and making farad'n a bene gessirit , that is my complain in this book , maybe leto was an unexpected variable that made farad'n static .
the harq al-ada was good reveal as the scribe who we saw his writing across the book .
Lastly The Preacher which was a good mystery in the book moving me between paul or not paul until the second third of the book where it was obvious that he is paul , but what i liked was his attempt to deglorify his name and destroy that very thing he built to divert the people from the path he has followed also he is against the golden path abomination but he is weaker than leto , he bends to him and he gives the last preach which was a cenimatic scene where he preach against alia and her priesthood killing him leaving the real fremen disrupted and the chaos it made , after it came the suicide of alia ending this sequence which was the best part in the book , ending two crucial main characters from book 1 .
With the missing point of farad'n training, and the missing of impactful events except the last sequence, and not the revolutionary ideas like book 1 and 2 except leto metamorphosis, i think this book is a little lower . This book feels a little like the first book but reconstructed.

I was very into this for the first 20-30% of the book, but I quickly became very confused and I don't really understand the ending?? yay for Paul being alive although did he properly die?? And what is with the twins?? Why is Leto going full evil on everyone? Dictator for centuries?? I am confused
I hope they make a movie for this one, they do a pretty good adapting them (these new ones) so I think I might be less confused with a movie

Graphic: Death, Violence, Murder, War
Moderate: Animal death, Confinement, Incest, Blood, Kidnapping, Sexual harassment, Injury/Injury detail
By far my least favorite of the original Dune trilogy, mainly due to it being the least narratively coherent, but also partially due to just being creeped out by the twins (I am not a fan of child characters that think and act like adults, just generally speaking). Would not reread.
As I am reading through this series I am still in love with the universe Frank Herbert has made. That being said this is the first in the entries that started to feel like a little bit of... slog? Still a fantastic book. On to God-Emperor.
So so good. Loved it. It's the start of something new. Leto and Ghanima are so intelligent and a fantastic reflection of both of their parents. The revival of some characters was absolutely shocking and I loved the twist on family in this book. Gut-wrenching ending though. Shed a lot of tears throughout. Very emotional story.
Thus far, this has been my favorite in the original Dune series. It’s a close call between this one and the original book, but the original book’s first half lags a bit and this one kept me interested the entire time. I do enjoy the development of characters over the entire series and the growing Mythos of the house Atreides.
