First time eARC reader, long time bibliophile. I went into this book COMPLETELY blind, not knowing what to expect and it was such a thrill! Um, chapter 7? Holy smokes! And it only gets hotter from there. I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say on Goodreads, but it’s been a while since a spicy book has made me feel a certain way… It has everything I look for in a book. Delicious banter between FMC and MMC, romantic suspense, reformed playboy, whodunit mystery that’s easy to follow, strong female lead, decent plot to spice ratio, and a cliffhanger that had me immediately downloading the next book onto my Kindle.

Thank you to Good Girls PR and Roxy Sloane for my eARC copy.

3.5✨ good writing, great smut, and an interesting enough plot for me to start the next book.

4.5⭐️ This was a crazy good, spicy, read! High society, secret clubs, swanky sex lounges, a prestigious college backdrop, semi-mystery vibes… the works!
Tessa is hunting down the man who hurt her sister so bad that she was driven to suicide. Tessa rearranges her entire life for this pursuit and everything else is left in her wake. When she meets a drop dead gorgeous professor who is the heir to Ashford university, she bulldozes right over him, leaving him intrigued.
Saint and Tessa are explosive and it’s quite nice to see that Saint the well known college professor rake, is the one who is the pursuer here! We even get an early spicy scene at around 20%. And the diiiirty talkkkk??!! Whew!!!!

Was a little hesitant with this book at first. I love the premise and the MMC, Professor 🔥 Saint. But truthfully there were moments I wanted to shake Tessa, our lovable and determined FMC. She’s on a quest for revenge & ends up stumbling into a steamy romance with a hot and rich Duke, and she’s really trying to resist??? Um girl. Please. I would’ve folded so fast for Saint. Literally confessed all my sins & the whole plot, just for some smooches 😂 but I know she’s grieving, so I’ll cut her some slack and hope for her to come to her senses in the next two books lmao.
slow-paced

Tessa has come to Oxford under false pretenses, she doesn't truly have a deep passion for 18th Century Literature...she has a need to discover what happened to her sister in the very halls she walks in now that shattered her... and Saint, Saint has a need for Tessa...a very very distracting need.

Cross My Heart is a dark academia, mysterious secret society romance that makes me want to visit Oxford to see for myself if it is as historic and full of secrets as so many novels seem to think (is there a kernel of truth to these widespread claims?) Not to mention to potentially find a Saint of my own...because damn an intellectual, well-read, dirty-talking, British, heir to a dukedom, rake? In the 21st century!! Yes Please!! Which reminds me we really need to bring back the term rake, it languishes in the Regency era and really should be applied to more fictional men at the least. Really Saint reminds me of a dirtier more grown-up Logan Huntzberger (In Omnia Paratus) and as a hardcore Logan stan I mean that as a tremendous compliment. Tessa is a strong, FMC who is sassy in the best ways creating some great back-and-forth banter. There is a ton of chemistry and spice between the two (be prepared for smut with a mystery plot not a mystery with some smut) and Roxy Sloane manages to weave a mystery that keeps you guessing to the last page... I did see the cliffhanger twist coming (don't worry the rest of the series is already out)

Thank you Good Girls PR and Roxy Sloane for this ARC of Cross My Heart!!
