I don't enjoy this - it's focused on things that were edgy from the late 90s/early 2000s and I don't find them edgy or interesting, nor do the characters interest me. I don't have the willpower to finish it.

I have been enjoying the Scandinavian Noir Mysteries, and I like the Icelandic mysteries in particular, having read two of Indridason's mysteries. I liked this book very much. I am a history buff, so I really like the historical references, even though they were macabre.
This was the first book I bought as part of my collection of: when I go to a country I will buy a book from an author there that takes place in that country and…..I just hope the other ones I get are better 🫶🏻
Tohle je kniha, která na své přečtení u mě v knihovně, čekala víc jak 10 let. A stojí za tím hned několik faktorů. Jedním z nich bylo i to, že jsem čekala na dovydání celé série. Už mě unavuje množství mnou rozečtených sérií, které se nikdy nedočkají kompletního vydání. Dalším pak, poněkud rozkolísaná hodnocení. V té době zažívaly severské detektivky na knižním trhu obrovský boom, bohužel kvalita byla, alespoň z mého pohledu, mnohdy poměrně sporná. A tak se stalo, že první autorčinou knihou, po které jsem sáhla, byla Pamatuji si vás všechny. A byla jsem nadšená, i tak jsem se ale k rozečtení série nějak ne a ne odhodlat. Až v loňském roce padlo konečné rozhodnutí, a to po přečtení další z autorčiných standalone knih, Kořist.
Kdo mě zná, nebo občas čte mé recenze tak ví, jak obrovskou slabost mám pro knihy, kde hlavní roli hraje tajemno. A když je do všeho zapojený i tajemný čarodějný spolek, historie čarodějnických procesů na Islandu a první, tam vydaný výtisk Kladiva na čarodějnice, nemohla jsem odolat.
Způsob vyprávění, jaký autorka volí, a ten, jakým píše, je čtivý a bez problému mě vtáhne do děje, a udrží si moji pozornost. I tak pro mě však bylo seznámení s oběma vyšetřovateli poněkud krkolomné a lehce kostrbaté. Stejně tak příběh, byl oproti mnou dříve čteným knihám jednodušší, s ne tak gradující atmosférou. Jak je ale u autorky zvykem, podařilo se jí všechny jednotlivé indicie poskládat smysluplně a příběh uzavřít tak, aby čtenáře nalákal i k přečtení dalších dílů. Vzhledem k tomu, že se jedná o jednu z prvních autorčiných knih, a zároveň úvod do celé série a seznámení s novými postavami, podařilo se autorce celý příběh ukočírovat velice dobře. Věřím, že další díly budou mít už jen vzestupné tendence. A já se na ně, rozhodně chystám. A tentokrát, doufám, i s výrazně kratším časovým odstupem.

man merkt schon dass es ihr erster thriller ist. vor allem wenn man die neusten vorher gelesen hat.
aber es war trotzdem sehr gut
auch wenn ich gern wüsste an welcher Uni in Berlin sie studiert hat. da gibt es 3. gut an der TU wird Jura wahrscheinlich nicht angeboten aber trotzdem finde ich das eine wichtige Info die ich bitte gerne hätte.^^

Every time I think about travelling somewhere, like Iceland for example, I always end up finding a mystery thriller set in that location. Which definitely makes me rethink about travelling to that specific place. So, I might have to put my future travel plans on hold due to Last Rituals.
It's not like I have time to travel right now anyways.
In this, you will meet Thóra. She is a lawyer, divorced, and has two kids. One is 6 years old, and the other is 16. She randomly gets thrown into being a private investigator which definitely confused me since she's a lawyer. But details.
While working on a murder case, we dive into the life of the victim: Harald. Okay, we sort of dive into his life and by that, I mean we get to know that he's into dark magic and occult shit. Sounds like your everyday kind of college student. Throughout the case, things do get pretty gross and bloody, but it actually makes sense as to why it happened. Still grossed me out though.
Along the way, she works with Matthew. They eventually start to develop feelings for one another, but if I'm being honest here, I came for the murder investigation. Their romance was background noise to me in the end.
Other than that, it was an okay book. I was kind of expecting something more for a murder mystery series and I'm not exactly sure if I want to continue with it. Maybe if the characters were a bit likeable and less creepy. Or if the romance was non-existent.
