Mac a un énorme défaut selon mon opinion de lectrice : elle est "not like the other girls". Ça m'a refroidie assez vite.

I liked how slow burn this was. It worked for me and there were some really sweet moments between Daniel and Mac as they were getting to know each other. I liked how careful he was with her and how he let her set the pace. I definitely felt that Daniel and Mac legitimately fell in love during the course of this book and that rarely happens for me.

Okay this was cute! A high school English teacher and a well known author! Yes please.
I loved the forced proximity, the banter between Mac and Daniel, and Macs love for teaching and her students. I feel like it was captured so well. Also Daniel Evans is just the sweetest!

Did not love: the 3rd act breakup, and the lack of communication. Like hello, just communicate and there would have been a lot less frustration.

I do like that the author included a chapter from Daniels POV and it made me wish she would’ve written it in dual POV. That would’ve sealed it for me!

Just one

On books…”I have my favorites to study and my favorites to read for fun. I have books I’d sell my soul to read again for the first time, and books that feel new each time I reread them. I have my favorite book I love to hate, and my favorite book I hate to love. The list goes on.”

Worth the read for this quote alone.

This is such a sweet teacher / writer romance about finding that spark again. Mac was just so admirable as a teacher, and her passion bought this story (and consequently Daniel's story) to life. There's a lot of heart, a lot of swoony worthy moments for our reader hearts and ultimately, this is such a cute read.

Triggers: not on page, but grief themes from a sibling death.

I‘m sorry you guys I didn’t like it.
I think it has a lot to do with the meet cute because it wasn’t very meet cuty. It was awkward, there was almost no chemistry and I just didn’t get it. Even in the bonus chapter where we see all of this from Daniel’s perspective it’s not any better. But this awkwardness is weird because Mac had a lot of chemistry and amazing banter with her best friend Jenny so clearly the author is very capable of writing it. Anyways because there was nothing there between Mac and Daniel I found it hard to believe that they were so attracted to each other and that’s were my real beef with this story starts.
I think the connection between the two was too heavily reliant on both of them having only had bad love interests in their pasts, which made it feel like they just so happened to be the first normal people each of them met. I just can’t stand this thing so many romance books do where I am supposed to believe that our mc is so special and not like other girls because she has normal opinions and is not a bitch. Why can our main characters not be their own unique special lovable selves without establishing that everyone else is shit.
Mac tells us that she has had a hard time after the death of her sister because the other teachers just could not let it go and kept reminding her of it, while simultaneously pitying her and also looking down on her for grieving at all. Like what? That’s not what normal people do and I refuse to like the Daniel just because in this weird world where everyone sucks he is normal. Do better.
And for him it was the same. Apparently where he is from it is normal to devalue his success of being an award winning bestselling author because he didn’t go to college. Of course he will fall in love with the first woman who tells him he is not a second rate human for writing a bunch of critically acclaimed bestselling novels instead of studying at uni.
Can you feel the stupidity of this??
While I’m at it I also didn’t understand why Mac was so angry at Daniel for not immediately telling him who he is and instead using Evan (his last name is Evans) to introduce himself when they meet in a bar. Like what’s your problem girl. You two were strangers you wouldn’t tell him anything other than your nickname either.
When I got to the end this suddenly disappointingly made sense because him „lying“ to her in the beginning was apparently supposed to be some kind of foreshadowing for or maybe character establishing to explain him lying (by omission) later on in the story.

On another note I really liked Jenny the best best friend in history. I think she might be a bit to perfect in that regard but I forgive it because her friendship with Mac was sweet and deep and I liked it
