Reviews with content warning for Homophobia - The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

This book, however much I love it, does have some flaws that should be noted for the modern reader, while I still recommend the piece with all my heart, these things should not go unnoticed.
the “f-slur” is used. Yes I would almost be willing to bet money it didn’t mean that in the mid 1800s when this book was first published, but it’s still a slur now and I would feel I have wronged people not to warn about it. It’s used once about 3/4s into the book. It might be censored in some editions but it is not in this one.
But, word that is used as a slur against my community aside, this book is fast paced, intense, makes you feel an array of emotions, has a lot of drama and a mystery that, while yes, we all know the answer to, it is still fascinating to see how things play out in the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. If you want to get into literature but are intimidated by slow pacing or have been burned before by a classic you had to read in school and felt like it was numbing your brain and not even getting the point across, the strange case of Dr Jekyll and mr Hyde may make you feel… at least a little healed from that sort of experience. It’s a fascinating and fortunately short read and makes you wonder about good and evil in a way that grows from two sides to many more. I would recommend this book over any other classic Victorian book I’ve read. Which admittedly isn’t many. So to put it more simply I vastly prefer it to Frankenstein.
