Diving into this book expecting to read a fluffy, holiday contemporary because the cover screams winter and the prompt about being stuck in an airport during the last day of the year sounds like something that will surely clear my mind off from the last epic fantasy I had a hungover with.
But this book is way off what I was expecting because TCOSS tackles grief, trauma, and finding your identity after losing someone you love.
Grief stories always surprise me. I mean, I'm soft-hearted when a story premise revolves on death or losing someone. I've read a lot of books involving grief in the storyline but this book surprisingly delivered one of the most on-point characterization of the experience.
The romance subplot had a hard time convincing me to swoon. In fact, the chemistry between Reginald Schwarzenegger and Vegine Starbucks is blurry. The only scene that made me feel butterflies is that Eternal flame sing along at the food court.
Overall, this book is a recommended read if you're looking for a book that highlights grief experience set in a holiday season.
