Delightful -- an engaging plot line, likable characters, art, south of France and of course, exquisite descriptions of food!! Warning: do not read this on an empty stomach! Chosen by my book group as an uplifting book to read during the current pandemic -- it did not disappoint!

I was assigned this book as part of a bookclub game. Thank you, thank you, thank you to whomever recommended it. I found it absolutely delicious and delightful except for the parts that made me sad. Ondine and Céline are such strong women. I felt so bad for Julie. I wish the twins could've suffered some kind of karmic event.

I want to like this book… the overall story is a great one, and the author has clearly done a great job of writing down how she wanted Picasso to be seen. The primary issue for me is writing style- the style was quite haphazard throughout the book, changing tenses or how characters spoke at random times for no seemingly understandable literary reason. Also, it featured unnecessary amounts of abuse to females; while I appreciated seeing a “truer/ish” side to Picasso, the abuse that the daughter endured, for example, was so unnecessary.
