I have mixed feelings about this book.

The author is not at all humble about her success. I 100% think you should own your hard work and effort, but once or twice, not 50 times in one book. She also doesn't seem to understand her privilege. Yes, you can recommend therapy and getting a nanny, and a cleaner, but obviously not everyone can afford those things.

The best part of the book was that the author was honest and vulnerable. She didn't have to include some of the deeply personal things she did in this book (and there was a lot), and I think the effect is very powerful. She does give some solid advice, like the fact that you can't control what happens to you, but you and only you are in charge of what happens next, your reactions, and your happiness. I also liked her idea of setting goals for yourself with visual reminders and rewards for hitting certain milestones. Overall, I liked the general premise of the book, which is to dismantle some of the lies we believe about ourselves, like that we're not worthy unless we're thin and beautiful, that we have to be the perfect mom all the time, or that we should have achieved xyz dreams by age 30/40 etc.

I started this book really hyped. I liked a lot of what Rachel had to say even if it was a bit cheesy. But as the book progressed and I really sat down and listened to it, I saw the vapid humblebragging of it disguised as an inspirational book. What nailed the coffin was the chapter on diet and self-image that was full of the same typical BS of someone who is totally out of touch with the actual struggles people deal with as overweight and obese. No, calories in vs calories out don't always equal weight loss. But that'd involve her looking past her own nose and actually doing research on obesity and diet. Her words are dangerous to people who are struggling with self-esteem and low self-worth. She even acknowledges she "will get flack" for her view on diet. That alone tells me she is full of sh*t and more interested in feeling important than actually helping people. I stopped listening at that point and the more I looked into her, the less of her I liked. The era of "social media influencer", which she brags about constantly, needs to die. It gives too much power to superficial, irresponsible people like her.

Nope. For someone to say watching porn means you have no respect for your partner - get the hell out of here with your religious bullshit. Did not finish because of the disgusting preachyness of this bullshit.

Edit: Just learned her and her husbund partner broke up, so super hypocritical bullshit.

I loved this audiobook read by the other. I found myself laughing and agreeing along while listening. Definitely motivating and solidifies the fact that we are not alone in even our most toughest times.

Goodness some people have a strong hate on for this book and her "preaching/advice" (I wonder what made them read it...it does look like a "self help" kind of book...).

I can see how some reviewers may think she's entitled, a humble brag, full of white privilege....and yet she has a story to tell. She HAS lived through some stuff! Maybe it wasn't a book that speaks to EVERYONE (as Hollis dreamed of a Louis Vuitton bag, maybe others just dreamed of another meal and found this unrelatable. I can see that)....but again, she's been through stuff. Hard stuff. Crappy stuff that no one should have to go through...and she's gained strength and wisdom through it.

There wasn't a lot of "new" stuff to me but just like I can see how some may not enjoy it, I can see how many will get something out of it and be super encouraged....my only worry is to those who LOVE it and look at this like a second bible; I believe there's a bit more of a "striving" mentality. Make your goals and go after them sounds great but also pretty worldly. What if God's timing doesn't line up with your own? What if you hit a wall and get back out there - but God wants you to be still...wait for a bit, and focus on HIS timing..? I think those are things to take into consideration so you don't get burnt out.

But all in all she was lovely and I always give authors major points for being vulnerable and sharing their story. <3
