Well that was beautifully, heart wrenching, and heart healing. In this book, We follow two POVs one a Dominican American teenager and the other a Dominican teenager. They live in two different places and are untied by one plane crash. I can't say enough how beautiful this book is. My heart broke for all the characters. the writing and pacing were stunning. I'm so glad I read it.

Beautiful writing and characters as always from Acevedo! This is another novel in verse from the author, with lyrical and rhythmic writing.
I loved the characters and their development. Clap When You Land does a great job depicting grief and family secrets! I think the pacing was well done, with the switching POVs of Yahaira and Camino giving us an insight into their daily lives after the crash.

Sometimes however the poetry got repetitive in a way that I thought “yes we get it you can stop repeating that word/phrase now” instead of the powerful impact it was maybe meant to have.
I also did have a harder time distinguishing the MCs as they sort of blended together at times. But I’m not sure if this was the characters themselves or because I was listening to the book rather than reading a physical copy.
Overall a moving and wonderful novel in verse! But my favorite of Acevedo’s is still With the Fire on High ☺️

A beautifully written and unique tale of the intricacies of sisterhood. Told in verse, it’s poetic nature is profound and deeply moving. A rarity that I enjoyed from start to finish! and I can’t recommend it enough.

This was the first novel written in verse I think I have ever read, and it was absolutely beautiful. When I began, I was worried it would feel a bit pretentious and unnatural, but I was drawn into the lives of Camino and Yahaira just as quickly - maybe quicker - as if it had been in paragraphs of prose.
I loved getting both sisters' different experience of their father's loss, and felt the distinction between the two POV was clear (which is super important to me). I do wish we had a bit more time with them both in the same place - the end felt a bit rushed to me - but that is my only complaint (I'd you can call it that).
I'll be keeping my eye out for anything else this author releases, 💯.

There are two books on this earth which I love so deeply and will never recommend, because they hurt soooo amazingly. This is now one of them. If you want to pick up this book, especially if you’re Dominican or have family secrets you’ve contended with, have experienced loss, etc. DO IT. But I am not liable for how hard it hurt me. And in fact if it hurt you just as badly, let’s start a class action lawsuit. I am in my feelings, and having a dead father and a Dominican family who rather omit to “protect” got me all messed up.girlonbooks's review

What first must be said about this book is that it is an absolute delight to listen to. I am blown away by the talent that is Elizabeth Acevedo. Both her voice and style of writing generated such tangible imagery for me that I was literally move to tears at moments. This book is truly stunning on all counts. I love that Acevedo narrates her own work. I think it gives a different sort of depth to a novel when the author does that. Also, I can't find any other completed audio book projects by Melania-Luisa Marte but I certainly hope there are a few on the horizon because her portrayal of Yahaira was outstanding!
