An amazing novel, would definitely read it again. I was rooting for all of them (except Knox at the end cuz wtf man) and it really hurt to see what they were going through. The message of this book and what Oh Captain, My Captain tried to teach them is extremely valuable advice. Everyone should follow it.

Since this book came out after the movie, I will have to critique both.
I believe that the storyline really does something that very few pieces that have been solidified in the "dark academia" genre failed to do: critique academia itself. Dark academia asks for you to look at academia as a whole and see the effects it has on its students. The word "dark" refers to more than just dimly-lit rooms and an unclear atmosphere; it refers to the dark effects that the institution of academia has. These effects are seen in the tattered mental health of many of the key characters - particularly Neil Perry and Todd Anderson.

Something that the book unfortunately misses is the little details and context that could be found in the movie. However, I believe the author does well trying to convey most of what the characters did and felt in the book.
