Anatomy of a Scandal comes in a time where Hollywood is being scrutinized by sexual harassment. The book settlement is a little bit different as it takes place in the political environment. But the impact of the sexual misconduct is as powerful. Right in the beginning of the book we learn about the scandal, and as the story unfolds we end up reading about how the scandal took place and some other things that happened in a not so distant past involving the main characters. While I really liked to read about the scandal and all narrative in the present, I didn’t really like the pace of the 1993 narrative. I felt something odd about it, and was always hoping to get back to 2017 stories. The story is told in the perspective of more than one narrator, which helps shedding light on what exactly happened and how each character felt about it. The ending leaves room for a possible second book in the future.

A pretty good psychological thriller, set in my favourite place, London. Ruined slightly by the author’s preoccupation with the weight of her female characters - I got sick of reading about concave stomachs and sharp collarbones. There was something about it that seemed unhealthily obsessive.

3.5/5 Stars

Definitely a ripped-from-the-headlines vibe. Engaged with varying degrees of depth with issues surrounding violence toward women. Some of the class-based drama was mildly compelling but ultimately I found much of the narrative boring and surface-skimming.

I am in the minority here with this book. There was nothing suspenseful about this book. Even before I opened this book, I thought that it would be like Fatal Attraction. Yet, it was nothing like that. It was early on in the story where I saw this how this storyline was going to end. There was no surprises.

What was a disappointment the most about this book are the characters. There was nothing endearing about any of them...both the accuser and the abuser. Actually, I was kind of on the side of the abuser. This is because I did not believe that the abuser was guilty. The accuser came off as vindictive and wishy washy.

Then there is the wife. Her voice was fine but I did not care what her stake in the game was. This is cause, even though I was on the side of her husband I still did not share any love for him. The story was too drawn out with not a lot of suspense.
