Read this in a Romanian translation. This book is about two women, who at first glance have nothing to do with each other. The first one is Sophie, who is faced with having to choose between forgiving her husband cheating on her with his employee or divorcing him. Things take a turn for the worse when her husband James is accused of actually raping the woman who was his lover.
A trial starts and we get to know or second female protagonist - Kate, the victim's layer, who is very passionate in helping victims of abuse, she herself a rape victim in her college years. She knows how hard it is to win a case where the victim and attacker know each other.
But there is actually a past link between all these characters and I liked how the story wraps it all up. Nothing new, but I liked the execution of this theme. I think we don't talk about abuse enough in Romania and I am happy this kind of books get translated and published so we can have a conversation starting. Unfortunately, women are and will still be considered guilty of doing something to attract rapists, and a recent tragedy in Caracal, with the rape and murder of an innocent underage girl who hitchhiked in a rush to get home, is a clear reminder that we are alone and sometimes authorities are blind to our suffering.

Anatomy of a Scandal by Sarah Vaughan is a clever thriller. This is a two-act story: past and present with the same actors. The story is well structured and the characters well grounded. Sarah Vaughan delivers a solid mystery-thriller which is both exciting and frustrating. Well done!

This was a great book. Not to feminist-y for me. The wife acts really dumb. Like she believes her husbands BS. BUT it starts to unravel and things are just adding up and he looks guilty as hell

This started out SO well!!! I was hooked from the start! But then as I got closer and closer to the end of the book, my heart sank. What an anticlimactic end!
This book was not my favorite. The writing quality was really bad. I think some of it was that the author is British so I didn't have the context to understand her phrasing, but some of it was just poor English/grammar that I'm surprised passed the editing phase. Additionally, the story was not good enough to justify the poor writing. The twists were cop-outs, predictable, and just over-used cliches. Almost DNFed. Do not recommend.
3.5 stars. I don't really know why I picked this up as I usually don't want to read about rape and sexual assault. But something about it pecked my interest. It was well written and held my attention focused, but it was a difficult read, but I think it's important to read such books from time to time.
