Some really liked. Penny really didn’t. 3x9 2x8 ( Liz 8.5) 4x7 (Sarah 7.5) 1x2

This was surprisingly quite an easy read and not bogged down with too much legal jargon, which I liked. It was a read of political scandal, abuse of power and privilige.

I really didn't like James, but I think this was written to make the reader feel that way. Sophie was quite annoying and I found myself inwardly screaming at her on a few occasions. I liked Kate's character and her passion.

The ending wasn't as explosive as I thought it would be, which was a bit of a let down.

Dnf- I couldn't get into it. Got about halfway through and after trying to make myself read it for weeks gave up.

A good read and interesting story. I've seen the Netflix show first so that may have spoiled a lot of the twists for me. It also has a lot of English slang, terms & culture that were hard for me to grasp while reading. But overall I enjoyed reading this and would recommend it!

Kinda picked it up on a whim, the premise was really intriguing and scandalous in the sense that you won't be satisfied without knowin the truth. It was a page turner for me and I finished most of this in one sitting, probably because it had me wanting to discover the true reality of the situation. The writing style was decent albeit a bit lengthy, unnecessarily so (I often found myself running my eyes over long paragraphs), but some parts threw me off guard and could be considered quite offensive. The characters were fine but I would've liked more personality. If you enjoy gossip, drama and secrets mixed with true crime, you can try this book out.

Anatomy of a Scandal is the story of a court case for a British politician charged with raping a young female staff member sometime after he ended the affair they were having. It is told primarily from the perspective of Kate, the prosecutor, and his wife, Sarah. There are also flashback scenes to the university years of Holly, who at one stage shared tutorials with Sarah. The way these two storylines came together was one of the weak points of the novel for me. While I understand the motivation behind the decision, it felt a little forced and artificial not to mention a little too risky and implausible. What I did enjoy were the courtroom scenes - I’m a sucker for a good courtroom drama. The contrast between Kate’s perspective and that of Sarah was well done and kept my interest high, trying to ascertain whose view of James was correct - although I was pretty sure I already knew the answer. I also enjoyed the portrayal of Sarah and her evolution - both the way she stood by her man despite the stress the trial placed on her and her children, as well as the way she then slowly began to question what she thought she knew, and to recognise signs she had been previously ignoring. And I loved the ending. ***Spoilers ahead***Who doesn’t love an entitled rich white man finally getting held to account for at least some of his actions and having to face consequences he considered himself immune from? Especially when he is taken down by someone he would probably have never suspected.

DID NOT FINISH

I skipped right through it because honestly most of the book is pointless rambling and being stuck in unlikable (sophie, james) or downright dull (kate) characters heads makes for a very boring read. Even the court case in court was boring and that's supposed to be the entertaining part!
Spoiler Kate being James previous victim I didn't see coming. What I did, was him getting off and Sophie seeing the light once he was and then still not doing anything about it right up until the end. Predictable and a downright bore.

Also from the start, the book was offensive.
page 2 'with my wig on and my heavy rimmed glasses, I know I look asexual' do not use such terms to describe the way someone looks.
page 24-'single, without children but apparently not gay' was used to describe someone. Why would you say that, it makes no sense unless you're trying to imply gay people are more often not single and without children.
page 'perhaps he is asexual. there is something so cold about him' Really he has a cold personality therefore you think he is asexual? That is a gross misconception.

(Normally I don't rate dnf books because I didn't finish it and therefore I cannot rate something I didn't complete. However I skipped rather then dnf so while I won't count it as a read book, I will rate it because honestly I read the important parts, the rest was just mindless rambles of nothing.)
