Anatomy of a Scandal features a story that spans over two and a half decades. The story is told from five perspectives: Kate, a Barrister who usually takes on cases of sexual violence, Sophie, a woman married to a man accused of rape, James, the man accused of rape, Allison, Oxford student and friend to Holly, and Holly, an Oxford University student in the 1990s who attended school with Allison, Sophie and knew of James.
This was an interesting story. If you’re looking for a story driven by a traditional story structure of rising actions and a large climax near the end, this may not be the story for you. However, the perspectives really drive the story forward, and as a woman (which, I think says enough. Most women can’t say they’ve never been sexually harassed in some way), I was drawn to the story and wanted to know what would happen.
Unfortunately realistic, this book didn’t give me the satisfying ending I was hoping for but of course that would be too easy. I think this book is made stronger by its ending and resolution due to the way the author attempted to empower the women of the story and capture the current climate around sexual harassment and rape cases.
I would definitely recommend.

Excellent legal and sexual thriller. Timely. But when are relationships between men and women and power not timely
At times I almost felt like I was reading different books because there were so many layers to the story. I felt like each chapter was trying so hard to end on a major cliff hanger that made you want to read on, but none particularly hit me that way. When I thought something big was finally going to happen I feel like I was let down with more slow-paced background information. I found myself getting bored with parts and drifting or zoning out while reading some and having to go back and reread parts.
Because you were being introduced to key players in the story, the book was extremely slow paced in the begging. I did enjoy the fact that the story was told in multiple points of view. I didn’t see myself connecting with any characters even though they were greatly depicted.
If you enjoy a slow fact based book, with a great court case this one will definitely be for you. I prefer books to be fast paced or at least hold my attention and was disappointed that this one was neither in my opinion. I will say that I think this book is being released at a great time. A man in power is being accused of rape and inappropriate behavior is one we can all relate to seeing.

This is a novel which will raise issues and a lot of discussion I think. What constitutes rape and a scandal? In the present day news bulletins where people in high places are being taken to the cleaners for one reason or another, this is an aptly drawn account of one potential case. It feels real, it sounds real and it could be - that’s the point. We all think we know how we’d react and judge but who do you believe and why?
the settings are the world of wealth and privilege from Oxford to London - the real journey here is through the court systems and the trial. This is no easy read but it’s a fascinating one. !0 people in a room asked a question about the same situation will give ten very different views. What is right and where is the line between right and wrong?
Uncomfortable reading at times but it’s very similar to Apple Tree Yard but with a twist. There’s plenty of scandal and you really do feel you’ve been to a autopsy and that scalpel cuts deep.

Mie mi-a plăcut cartea. Nu se citeste greu si nu are termeni juridici complicați. Mi-a luat cam o săptămână să o citesc deoarece pe alocuri mă cam plictisea. Au fost câteva capitole cărora nu le-am văzut sensul. Personajele au fost slab conturate. Pentru o avocată, Kate mi s-a părut prea delăsătoare, în unele situații, dar ca să nu dau spoilere, vă las pe voi să aflați de ce.
Nu am un personaj preferat, dar dacă ar trebui să aleg, ar fi Sophie. Ea este femeia care a suferit cel mai mult, cea care a trebuit să aleagă între a-și păstra familia la un loc sau a o destrăma. Ar mai fi și Olivia, cea care a trebuit să dovedească oroarea prin care a trecut.
I-am acordat 4 steluțe acestei cărți pentru că povestea mi-a plăcut, dar nu m-a ținut în suspans așa cum speram. Am știut cum se va termina de pe la jumătatea cărții. Per total, o carte bună, dar m-a făcut să mă întreb cum va fi cealaltă carte scrisă de Sarah Vaughan.

I was annoyed by the shift in narrative at first. It was hard to keep up with these new names and stories, but as the story progressed I came to enjoy the shift in narrative. I wish the author would have paced it better, though.

Le doy 4.5/5 estrellas, no alcanza el 5 porque en experiencia propia me costaba mucho identificar los flashback, apesar de que tenían los años, me perdí constantemente al leer y tuve que regresar varias veces para comprender, fuera de eso, me rompío la cabeza (en un buen sentido) por la trama tan buena y el buen desarrollo de personajes me tuvo encantada.
Los flashback tuvieron solución, ya que al ver la miniserie que salió en Netflix, pude entenderlo mucho mejor.
Sin duda, recomiendo mucho este libro, entra a mi top 10.
