I listened to this on audiobook, and didn't realise I was up till very late last night because I didn't want to stop. 'Anatomy of a Scandal' is one of the few fictions that examines relationship rapes in the most authentic, sensitive and gripping way. The author creates believable drama and female characters that are strong yet emotionally conflicted. This book has some of the best female characters I have read in a book categorized as a 'thriller'. This isn't a thriller as much as it is a character drama, though no less engrossing and interesting.

The story is fairly predictable and familiar, mainly because it feels like something right out of the newspapers. Rich and powerful men disregarding or not being able to grasp the idea of 'consent' has consistently come to light ever since the #MeToo Movement started. The Movement also made us acknowledge the different kinds of 'sexual assault' that can happen, and not just the ones that involve a stranger and a "helpless" woman. This book is the #MeToo era in a nutshell, the importance AND the futility of it. It is a timely and essential read.
