inspiring reflective relaxing

One of my perpetual favorites. Reading this book transports me to the dunes of the Cape, and back to my childhood (when the Cape was quieter).

I listened to the audiobook, which has an interesting interview with Beston biographer Daniel Payne.

Really good, although I have to confess it took a while to read because some of the lyrical descriptions of weather & wildlife were almost like poetry. It is description of his year of living in a beachside cottage on Cape Cod. The writing really evokes the place and the sounds of the sea & the coast. It also shows how tough life can be in that environment - his tales of shipwrecks and the tough life of the coastguard & lighthouse keepers is fascinating but enough to make me glad of urban comforts.
