Already can’t wait to re read this series in the fall and winter seasons. It’s just a delightful world. I think my favorite thing about the series is that it doesn’t follow a traditional pattern of story. You think it could end at a point but then there’s still 30% left to go. It’s winding and surprising and magical.

It took me longer than usual to finish this book. Not because I didn't enjoy it; quite the opposite. I dreaded being finished with this delightful series. And in truth, I am quite sad that I have now reached the conclusion of Emily and Wendell's story. This series will forever remain in my heart, for it has touched my soul in ways so many other books have failed to do. A beautifully told folk faerie tale that is the perfect mix of whimsical and horrific. Thank you, Heather Fawcett, for your work. I am grateful to have stumbled upon it.

Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales is the conclusion to the Emily Wilde trilogy. While I think that Heather Fawcett has created a fascinating world of Dryadologists and faeries alike, this was my least favourite book in the series because many of my issues from past books were further compounded in this conclusion. I have been struggling all along to express exactly what it is that just hasn't hit for me with this series, as theoretically it ticks a lot of boxes for me. I saw another reviewer explain exactly what it is, however, so I will paraphrase them here. Essentially the issue with the series is that it is marketed as a cozy fantasy and yet the plot lines are far from cozy. Instead, we see Emily and her various companions take on plot lines and enemies right out of any old high stakes fantasy, and yet because this is more of a cozy fantasy, the solutions feel too simple and just don't seem to mesh well. This was even more the case with this final book. Certainly the characters are well written, and the world is fantastic, but I just think I wanted more out of this series.

I liked this one too. I thought it was cute. I think, again, this is just a preference but I didn't really like the book being in a journal format. I felt like for some of the scenes, I wanted to hear their thoughts and what was going through their mind in the moment. Not, in a format of, what I remember from when it happened. I also would've liked for Wendell and Emily to see eye-to-eye on the last mission and do it together. Otherwise, I thought it was cute. I wish the redemption at the end didn't happen. It didn't make sense. I would've liked it better if the stepmother stayed evil. Overall, I thought it was a cute read and a nice conclusion to their story
