4.2/5 star overall
Personal enjoyment: still a solid 6/5

A wonderful wrap up to the Emily Wilde trilogy.  Of the 3 books, this one has the most action and explores the importance of the lessons stories teach us.

🔹️ Style: 1st person pov of Emily Wilde
🔹️ Pace: fast, something is always happening
🔹️ Topics: folklore, faries, monarchs, vengeance, love, scholarly research

---

This whole series is just perfect in my eyes. Its equal amounts a cozy read, with an incredibly resourceful main female lead, deep dives into European folklore, and a sense of the unexpected when it comes to the faerie realm.

In this last book, Wendell and Emily take over as monarchs of Wendell's realm. But due to the events of the 2nd book, the previous monarch has cursed the land. Emily once again relies on her scholarly knowledge, resources, and "get it done" approach to find a way to rectify the situation.

This entire series is just a lovely, cozy, fun read. The way Fawcett has combined the wonder of magic, lead by a strong and realistic lead, and balancing it all with a plausible sotrytelling approach, you can't help but find it so very charming.

If you want a fantasy read that is easy to fall into, I highly recommend this series.

It is so difficult to find authentic faerie stories these days that the Emily Wilde series has been a huge breath of fresh air. I have missed these kinds of tales so much. Just placing a faerie character into the novel is not enough for me. I love the world-building within these stories, and I am so grateful to Heather Fawcett for bringing this magic into the world. Real faerie stories are so difficult to find.

That being said, I did not like this book as much as I did the other two. The world-building is still fantastic, but the story felt a little all over the place. It was almost like she either could not tell where she wanted the story to end, or she was unsure how to get there. Or maybe she just did not know how to fully flesh out the storyline for this particular plot. Whatever the reason, my rating for this book is a 3.5 because I do not feel like the story was as cohesive and in the other two books. It has also been a while since I read the other two, so I kind of forgot who a lot of these people are and how Emily knew the Hidden King. LOL. I do remember enjoying the first two books!

Overall I did like this book. The story-building and character creation makes me so happy. This is exactly the kind of book I have been craving to read, and it has reignited my love of faerie stories. That love never fully died, but I have been so disappointed in modern faerie stories. This series has renewed my passion for them, and I am going to soak up as many as possible! Thank you, Heather Fawcett!
