Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn't know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart. Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can't deny their intense attraction. Until Josh's secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he's worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.

Thoughts
She does it again, this isn’t her strongest book, but even that is a fantastic read. A story of resilience for an oldest daughter trying to hold her family together while grieving the loss of her dad and the future she had planned. Through this loss she discovers real love and her accepts that what she had planned wasn’t true to herself. Definitely more on the heavy side but still an easy read.

So I never thought I would be a sucker for army life themed romances, boy was I wrong. This is the second time Becky has got me in my feelings lol.
This was a very captivating love story that took some time, took healing, and took growth amongst all the characters. I love me a good predictable romance that had me questions their stupidity lol. Get it TOGETHER lol, and they did. Beautifully written.

DID NOT FINISH: 24%

The weird insta-lust, the unrealistic actions and dialogue from Josh Walker,
the weird instant hook up with Josh after Ember just found her boyfriend of 3 years having sex with her best friend,
I just couldn't continue. The writing is super weak and the plot and characters just feel too unrealistic for realistic romance fiction. Had to DNF after chapter 6.

This was fine. I can tell it was one of RY’s earlier books, because she has definitely improved since then. 😅

I’m invested enough to finish the series. And also I do love RY’s stories.
