I listened to this on Audible. It was a great listen. I loved the back and forth in the chapters between present day and the fathers’s perspective/book chapter.

I wish I would've written my review right after I finished this one because it was SO good and now I'm three months removed.

Either way, this was hard to put down. I've only read one other Riley Sager and it definitely held my attention but had gone a little on a red herring journey. This one, however, stayed with the plot and kept me guessing.

It has a fascinating storytelling device where the chapters alternate between present day and chapters from the nonfictional book surrounding the real (fictional) book.

Bonus points that this was set outside of Boston and I read it shortly after my trip there this year.

This book did what I wished The Stranger Upstairs had done.

Maggie is returning to her infamous family home. It's the setting of her father's bestselling novel about the hauntings of a huge home and a place she's avoided for years.

Her experiences in present day as she sorts through old belongings are mirrored by chapters of his novel -- connecting past and present and revealing what was true and what was an exaggeration.

You never know what could be hiding in your ceilings.

This book definitely lived up to the hype. Maybe because it is Halloween week or because it has actually been a little chilly here in AZ this week but it actually creeped me out a little and I enjoyed it. I will definitely get this book to own eventually. I listened to the audiobook on Libby and they did a great job with the audiobook as well. Ms. Pennyface probably creeps me out the most. Thinking of a lady with pennies over her eyes is kind of creepy. If you want a good spooky book for Halloween time this is a good one.

This was a really fun haunted house story with some twists I didn't see coming! 'Home Before Dark' is a perfect book to read in October!

I read this in one night, and had to finish it because I was too scared to go to sleep.
