3.5

It was a fun and cute romance, but I didn’t fall in love with the characters, you know? I liked them, but I won’t be squealing and giggling thinking about them next week. So that’s a 3.5, moderately above average good and enjoyable.

The conflict near the end was taken straight out of the romance textbook, it could be seen coming from 10 miles away. It was plausible though, and I liked that we did not have to spend too much time on it since the author opted for resolving it quickly rather than dragging it out, but I can see why some people bring up that super smooth resolution in their critiques of the book.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book. I had heard good things, but I’m only just now getting into the romance genre so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I was absolutely blown away. While I wish the romance had more build up or implied time knowing each other, it didn’t take me out of the story overall. I found the narration hilarious and the narrator really brought it home.

While the 3rd act conflict wasn’t the best I’ve ever read and was a bit abrupt, it mostly made sense for the characters. Overall it didn’t take too much from my enjoyment of the book.

Also the spice was great, best I’ve read in ages.

Funny, sweet, sexy, heartwarming - this book was a delight. I went into it knowing it had been very popular in the contemporary romance genre and not much else, and was pleasantly surprised to find one of my favorite reads of the year.

It really took off for me about 30% in (that's been a theme this year - taking about a month to read the first 30-40% of a book until it grabs me, and then devouring the rest in a few days.) The banter gets SO good and the chemistry crackles. Love the represention here with the disabled/chronically ill POC main character, the interracial/class differences in the romantic relationship, fat-positivity and more. There is discussion of chronic illness, abusive/manipulative past relationships, abandonment, burn out, mental health/therapy... this book has a lot of depth!

It's also just a really beautiful love story, demonstrating how paying attention and sharing the load can make such a difference. Red is one of the sweetest and kindest men I've encountered in fiction in a long time, truly a pleasure to read. And Chloe is so incredibly sympathetic, clever and lovely as well. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series featuring her sisters!

This was such a sweet but also realistic story. I loved the disability representation and the normalization of a plus-size main character!
The argument scene was probably one of my favorite argument/miscommunication scenes in a romance because of the way Red was able to recognize what had happened and take accountability. I hate when they just walk away and don't talk it out until days or weeks later.
A lot happened, but I still felt like I wanted more. The story felt kind of rushed at times, but other than that it was a great book.

This book could've earned 4.5 stars for just for the fibromyalgia representation alone. I have never once felt so seen, and I will be sending this book to friends to help supplement their understanding of what I experience.
It earned a 5 because the characters really are wonderful, the romance is great, and they act quite believably given the backgrounds they both have.
I really didn't want the act 3 breakup, and thought for a moment that it might lower my rating, but when it was all said and done I think it was a beautiful illustration of the difference between useless chronic pain, and the types of growing pains that we can't live without.

Loved this book! Has been my favorite in this series. I think Hibbert is a really fun, engaging storyteller and writer. Her characters are so human and multifaceted. I love the representation of all kinds of healthy relationships throughout the book!
