The Outside offers some great ideas that I found innovative and clever. Especially that the gods and angels have ascended from quantum computers and achieved sentience. (Actually, The Outside made me want to read more 'the gods are actually AI' books!)

I found the writing clunky in places, and never really connected with the characters, although I very much enjoyed seeing the story unfold through the eyes of a neurodiverse protagonist.

I would recommend The Outside to anyone who finds the blurb interesting, but it wasn't a book that I ended up loving.

A sufficiently interesting book! The world is one that seems like a possible future. I was very engaged and wanted everything to turn out well for Yasira. The narration was unreliable in the sense that Yasira doesn’t have her own emotions figured out, and in some ways, her body knew better than her mind did (especially when it came to Tiv.
In the intro, Tiv seemed like someone who only mattered tangentially to Yasira, only to end up being one of the most important reasons for Yasira to keep going.
). The concept of the Outside is something I’m excited to learn more about in the later books.

This was a decent enough book. The autistic rep was wonderful. I did find it kind of dragged a bit in spots and it felt like a lot of names to remember but overall I am glad I picked it up.
