I read this to a 4th grade class after reading Pax. I loved it. I think maybe it was over the head of some students, but many enjoyed it and I loved it.

This sequel was everything I wanted. Another heartwarming young boy-animal friendship with a reunion between Peter and his beloved Pax. This time though Pax has his own young family and Peter must race to protect them from the contaminated water. The foreshadowing was a little overpowering in this one but there is a happy ending. I was on the edge of my seat wondering how things would go but luckily didn't need quite as many tissues for this book as the first one. Highly recommend this series that has great environmental consciousness messages and a wonderful animal-human friendship. Much thanks to Libro.fm for my complimentary ALC!

Somehow this book was even better than the original. Amazing. I love it. Can't wait to recommend it to children :)

I loved this follow up to Pax. Peter is grieving for the loss of both his parents and carrying his guilt over releasing Pax into the wild a year ago.
In the meantime, Pax and his partner Bristle welcome three kits to their family.
Peter and Pax’s worlds collide when Pax’s youngest kit is in trouble. Pax has to make a choice whether to seek out Peter for help.
This is heartwarming. I like the inclusion of the connection of the Water Warriors seeking to clean up the water supply.
The first book that has made me cry in a while. Thank you Ms. Pennypacker.

A sweet sequel to Pax. Loved the story of Pax as a dad and his relationship to his kits contrasted with the story of Peter grieving the loss of his father and trying to figure out his identity and future. I liked how the author continued to develop the relationship with Vola. The environmental clean up after the war led by the Water Warriors provided a good commentary. Enjoyed reading aloud to my 9 year old daughter. Some heavy topics but overall excellent story for middle grades.

It’s rare that a sequel measures up to its predecessor, but in this case it did. All the love for Pax’s story.
