Where book 1 was really plot forward, this one took its time and was more character focused. Felt a little like Sarah J. Maas pacing where it was slow until the the last 150 pages or so, where the ending is jam packed with action and setting up the next book in the series. I really appreciated how character driven this installation was, and after reading this one some issues/misunderstandings I had with the world and how it operates were cleared up, so I'm thankful that we spent so much time world-building with this book. I'm also a sucker for a training montage, and appreciated Arlo's story arc here.

This. This book is amazing. Just as a dark and hollow star was this entire series so far has been one of the best thing I have ever read. That ending though, bro I’m sitting here literally having finished it seconds ago and still attempting to process the shock, like- where is book three? Pls I need it so badly right now, very much looking forward to it.
