Based on a true story of the last person executed in Iceland (1830s) Agnus Magnusdaughter(spelling?). She was sent to stay with a farming family to await execution.
Her back story and the truth of what happened unravel slowly as Agnus gains the family’s trust and respect through hard work on the farm. The story is told by a narrator but also from Agnus’ point of view. A compelling story, that presents the harsh landscape and farming community of iceland as a pivotal character in the story of Agnus’ life.
Listened via audiobook, I enjoyed this story and feel it not only revisits an interesting historical moment but also serves as a timely reminder against labelling people based on their past, linage or the words of others and instead practising humanity and compassion as you really dont know where someone has come from.
