Trigger warnings: This story mentions off-page animal mutilation. Also, flashback descriptions of horrific tragedy during the Afghanistan war.
Book #1 of the Bloo Moose series read with a staccato cadence — clipped and clunky. The timing was awkward during the romantic and steamy scenes. I don't imagine finding it romantic to kiss or exchange vows of love immediately after being shot at, for example.
But . . . My romantic side was rooting for Myla and Sawyer and I was so pleased that they gave their relationship a chance.
Darby, though we only capture glimpses of her, seems like a lovely character. According to the excerpt at the end, Darby is a central character in the next book, and the language appears to flow more smoothly. If my library/Libby acquires it then I'll check out the next book in the Bloo Moose series.
