melancholic, funny, mature, real, romantic, beautiful. persuasion was probably the one jane austen book i had the most expectations about, precisely why i was decided to read all her works respecting the order; in my heart, i knew i could now read her last finished novel, written as she was becoming terminally ill, anytime before now, having gone through the rest of her novels. somehow, it managed to surpass all of my (decidedly high) expectations. there are a lot of things i could say about this book and austen, especially about how wonderful it feels to have witnessed her writing morph and bloom throughout the entirety of her work, and how perfect of a culmination of all her talents persuasion reads like, but i would spend hours talking about things that far more qualified people have already written about. all i can say for myself is that it's been a beautiful and changing journey to discover austen in full, and dare i say, a privilege, so even though i know i have unfinished manuscripts and letters to still find and be delighted by for the first time, i can't help but feel bittersweet to reach what feels like a finish line — but what a finish line it is! a warm goodbye, and a new beginning: i hope to keep finding new things in new rereads of any and all austens, and falling in love over again. i am half agony, half hope.

I thought this was a pretty decent book but I enjoyed it mostly because I was reading it with my friend Margaret. It is a classic romance and gives Bridgerton vibes in a high society way.
