I didn’t particularly find the book too remarkable but also couldn't put it down.

I enjoyed The Bell Jar because each relationship Esther had in the bell jar all reflected various themes that were relatable. I felt that her relationship with her mother was most significant although not talked about as often as her relationship with Buddy. Although quite loving, she never truly understood her own daughter and only wanted her to fit societal expectations. As the reader, I felt the detachment strongly and how realistic it was. Plath did so well in portraying challenges that we (women) face and her use of words in general string so well together.

So I really enjoyed this book. Was it hard to read? Yes. Very much so in parts. But did I underline something on almost every page? Also yes. Plath's writing is beautiful, and she was able to describe her deteriorating mental state so comprehensively that at times you find yourself almosther  agreeing with her irrational decisions. But definitely read the trigger warnings first, because I feel this could easily send someone into a spiral.

. so- this book is incredibly relatable, sad and the emotional nature of the book makes you empathise with the main character, which sucks because sylvia plath uses racist remarks throughout and sometimes disregards the priveledges given to her/the main character due to disadvantages she faces within sexism, homophobia and ableism. The beginning of the novel is basically a recount of plath’s life and written in a lighter tone even when exploring dark themes, the rest of the novel however is written within an incredibly dark headspace and kind of glorifies suicide and other harmful ideas which may be harmful to some readers and isn’t really explained anywhere on blurbs or covers which isn’t needed but i think is necessary

Lovely piece written by the author, almost brought a tear to my eye with some of the things it related to.
