What if the world ended as we know it due to some unknown event that made adults exhibit and express some of the rarest mental disorders that we know about?

People start to experience symptoms of Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder, Alien Hand Syndrome (the belief that one’s hand has its own life and doesn’t belong to oneself), Capgras Syndrome (The belief that someone or even everyone in your life has been replaced by an imposter), Todd syndrome (n which one’s perception of their body image, time, or space is distorted), multiple personalities, and more.

On top of that all of the children in the world undergo an astonishing physical transformation.
Throw in some philosophy and it makes some riveting reading.
A favorite passage:
"If there were another species that did
a fraction of the horrible shit we do, we'd see them as
pure evil. If there were a kind of beetle that somehow
blanketed the planet with plastic. A species of bird
that poisoned the air. A type of fish that killed the
oceans. A monkey that cleared the rainforests. A frog
that screwed up the whole globe's weather. We
wouldn't rest until we figured out a way to eradicate
creatures who did any one of those things—but we
do all of them. And a lot more."
