This definitely felt forced, like there had to be an ending, but the emotional stakes and attachment wasn't there. It was too obviously closing all the open plots.

While I can see why this series isn't as beloved as Percy Jackson, I still really, really enjoyed it. I thought it was a good romp. Equal parts history, romance, war, drama, and humor. This series had a satisfactory ending and I would recommend it to anyone. 5 out of 5 stars.

The characters in The Serpent's Shadow were much more fleshed out than in previous books. I really enjoyed their growth throughout the series.

However, what was frustrating to me was that the plot seemed to move along very slowly. Many of the quests that Carter or Sadie went on felt like filler for the plot. I also found the ending to be less than satisfactory.

There are some big changes that come as a result of the final encounter with Apophis. But it felt as though the characters just brush off these changes for the sake of tying up the ending in a bow.

Overall the series was okay. I still prefer Percy Jackson and the sequel series. But if you are a serious Riordan fan, you will probably get some enjoyment out of it.
