3.05/5.00 - [Not what I expected]
For what it is, I enjoyed this book... but only about 15% of this feels like Nightvale. By far the Nightvale portions of this book are leagues stronger than the backstory of the Faceless Old Woman. Personally, a bit of a disappointment given the strength of the last book in the series.

The wit of Welcome to Night Vale transfers once again magically into book form. A sea-faring adventure story that turns so grim was a fun and exciting read. My favorite out of the Night Vale books!

This was an interesting listen.
I knew Mara Wilson was the voice of the faceless old woman on the podcast so I loved that I got right back into the character because of her narration.
I loved that this book gave me her story told through the span of lifetimes, hers and many others, in such a vivid detail that I'm glad it was done in a book be an episode on the podcast.
Craner and Fink really went and provided an origin story that I never could have expected for this particular character, everand I love that surprise!

It was interesting to learn more about the Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home, and to hear all of the little sneaky references to Welcome to Night Vale and see a bit of the Nightvale before Cecil and Carlos. However, I felt that the story sort of dragged in spots and by the end I was really ready for it to be over, I feel like it could have been wrapped up a bit sooner. All in all, quite intriguing and I learned some new and interesting lore for WTNV
Moderate: Violence, Suicide, Death of parent, and Murder
Minor: Child abuse

[marketing assistant voice] the princess bride meets the incomprehensibility of cruelty meets an eternal quest for revenge. imo the emotional pacing was a bit off but another solid offering from the night vale team!
