While not quite complete idiocy, I hated this book. I hated how much it undid of the characterization and resolution we had from the final season. I hated what they did to Wesley. I hated how they decided to handle Nina and I really didn't like that they seem to have brought back Kate simply to have someone else for Angel to butt heads with, and kind of as a Cordy-replacement. Don't even get me started on Gunn.
There was just so much I didn't like about this whole attempt, and very little that I did like. I get that post-apocalypse there's going to be shit going down, but this just felt like trampling on everything that had worked about the last season and then spitting in your face, just in case you weren't insulted enough.
I just really wish I'd liked this better.

I loved this. I liked it even better than the Buffy Season 8 graphic novels. If I can't have more show, this is definitely second best!
This would have given me so many nightmares when I was a kid, but it's so good. Can't wait for the next few issues.
I was expecting more. The show ended too early and left me feeling empty. I turned to the graphic novels so that I could feel a sense of completeness when it came to this story line. It was interesting enough to keep me reading but still lacked so much of what the show had.
A rousing 5th season of Angel leaves far more of the characters alive - or, well at least still around, then what the tv finale would have ever guessed.
Slight problem, though. Angel is a bit, well, mortal. Wolfman and Hart decided to give him what he wanted most just when it was least needed - LA now being hell and all. And Gunn, well...
He changed a bit too. And Wesley is a bit dead. But that doesn't mean he isn't still a player.
And Angel and Wesley's change in status doesn't mean that they are not still fighting the good fight, helping the mortals fend off the demons as they can.
With the help from the dragon of course. And a few surprise allies along the way.

There is a lot going on here. There is Hell, there is ghostly Wesley, there is vampire Gunn, there is a lot of fighting, there are a lot of demons, and, oh yeah, Angel is human.
Love it! Picks up right where the TV series leaves off. Things have changed almost as much as they've remained the same. Very satisfying! On to volume 2...
