My feelings are transient based on whether I'm reading it from Sally/ Jane's perspective or Holden's perspective. Every one of us had their own tumultuous days of teenage years. But while there are so many Holdens in the literary world (বাংলা সাহিত্যে কবি, পুতুলনাচের ইতিকথা) why there aren't any popular/ critically acclaimed classic where a teenage girl is the narrator? How would a book be received in the 1950s if it was Sally "necking" with someone she loathes because he's too "phony"? The feminist in me groans.

I don't know...I don't like it and I don't hate it. It's a weird book...or I think it fits more teenagers since they are full of anger. But I'm pretty mature now so the Main character in this book seems to me as a silly ungrateful child. It was really weird to see someone literally dosen't like anything not to mention the amount of disrespect that he has. He always look down on people. To him everything is silly, everyone are ugly and stupid.
I don't remember being like that... like yeah I was a very rebel child but I've never looked at the world with this nasty way.

you know, I had low/neutral expectations going in but i do feel like I got something out of the book and found myself wanting to recommend this book to other people, which I do think means it is deserving of at least 4 stars. VERY strong character and I do think it captures something particular about the teen experience.

This was probably the worst book I've ever read. I was able to finish it, but only because I kept hoping it would get better. Unfortunately, it didn't. Other than numerous swear words, the only word the main character said was "phony".
