There was a moment around the 99% mark where I thought it might be getting good but then it ended, sadly. And no football.
So, the theme, is seems is that although the females have appeared to have lived through way more trauma than the males... all of the focus & sympathy appears to be directed towards the males.
Book 1 - her father killed her mother - we never found out why. But, the dad dying of cancer over-rode that. Sure, it is awful... but couldn't they have been given an equal platform?
Book 2 - she feels responsible for the death of two people... and was made to feel responsible. He finds out that his dad isn't his dad... boo hoo.
Book 3 - she was raped... raped. A 15 year old virgin... and yet she was the one who was made a pariah. She was the one who had to leave when the whole town sat in judgement on her. He finds out his dad is having an affair... whatever. Her mum wants her to almost get over it. And why was Brady bothering with his dad? Whom he had taken to calling by his given name? Frankly, that is just ridiculous.
The problem for me, is that whilst all of these events are traumatic in one way or another... the balance is always on his side. Always. I don't get why there were no repercussions for the rape. He looked sad... boo fraking hoo. She was the one who was raped. And I noticed it was rarely referred to as 'rape' whenever it was spoken about... for me, that makes it even worse. Belittles what happened. And then her rapist thinks it's OK to just look at the baby his violent act created? Fuck the right fuck off.
And the whole American football thing... don't get it. Never have, never will. Also, the total slutshaming of the females who weren't either the 'girlfriend' or related in some way... begger's belief, it really does. I felt sorry for Ivy. Brady just played her... and the whole 'nice guy' routine. Please. As if.
So, I am disliking this series heartily. I think part of it is... they are 17/18 years old and although they speak as if they are at least a decade older... their behaviour is incredibly juvenile.
Looking at the content of Book 4, I am not going to bother. I was trying to be a little more positive about the books that I read and reviewed... but, the next one appears to contain fat-shaming ( and then it is all OK when she loses all of the weight ) and a paedophile. Wonder how that would've been turned around to be made her fault? Cos based on previous reads... that is, no doubt, what will've happened. GARGGGH.

I like Brady and Riley together but part of me still resents him and the town for being so quick to call her a liar what the fuck was up with that like he never even asked the girl before assuming??

i really wanted to give this four 4 starts or more, i really did and i might even go back and change it but the ending really threw me off. It wasn’t bad or anything! in fact it was suggestively happy but not what i was hopping for so here’s a rant~
I honestly really did enjoy the storyline itself. it was different, kinda angsty but not common and the blurb really grasped my attention. It surprised me how fast paced the book was since i was expecting a slow burn with the amount of chapters but the chapters with short (which was amazing) and the switch it POVs was refreshing. However….as much as i loved both Riley and Brady, their relation was lacking… i dunno… chemistry? Spark? just something was missing! again that might just be because it was fast paced but i really didn’t feel as swoon over their relationship as i should of. despite everything i didn’t feel much of the love 😬
Another thing was i genuinely wanted some more Brady and Bry interactions. Seeing them connect and bond a bit more would have probably helped with their relation or whatever that was lacking. Couldn’t have gone wrong with some family moments and i was a bit disappointed there weren’t any with Brady taking care of Bryony :(
and while i’m ok that topic, i’ll complain about the ending. there was a perfect opportunity to get a perfectly happy ending with a time skip with them living together, Bry grown up and calling Brady “dad”! maybe even a second kid, living the life but no…. and that REALLY disappointed me. I mean seriously all i got was “ill marry you” and “ill say yes hehehhe” LIKE UGH! maybe that would have been okay if i actually felt connected to them as a couple but i didn’t…well not enough for that sorta ending to satisfy me and that really ruined the book for me!
AND THE LAST THING IM GONNA COMPLAIN ANOUT IS THE FACT THAT THE FÚCKING RAPIST NEVER FACED THE CONSEQUENCES OF WHAT HE DID! HE REALLY GOT AWAY WITH FUCKING UP HER LIFE UNSCATHED AND AS REALISTIC THAT MAY BE… IT PISSED ME TF OFFFFF
okay thank you for listening to my ted talk :)
