I WANT THE ENTIRE TOWN OF LAWTON ON THEIR KNEES APOLOGIZING TO RILEY!!
I'm serious.
So After the Game had been in my list of anticipated books for 2017 but last year wasn't the year of reading for me so I never bothered with it. And it sucked because I've been waiting for Brady's book. But I finally did it and I'm in between satisfied and unsatisfied.
Brady Higgens is like a mini Marcus Hardy: the nice guys with daddy issues who lost the girl in a love triangle that was completely unnecessary but got the right girl in the end. Oh and out of all the characters from the Field Party series to Sea Breeze, they're the only UA students from their respective series (Brady in the future). Meanwhile Riley Young is one of my favorite heroines from Abbi. I knew I was gonna love her the moment she gave Willa a ride in Under the Lights. And since I reread Until Friday Night for a refresher, I remember her as the girl who Maggie saw looking at the field yet got glared at by Brady.
This was a typical Abbi Glines book (Alabama, pick-up trucks, football, hot guys, girls with hard pasts) but this series has been my guilty pleasure despite its flaws, and this book's by far my favorite in the series. I love a good YA/NA sports romance and this one didn't disappoint because it's pretty heavy on football. Might also be because Brady's the star quarterback but Rock Taylor from Sea Breeze series was a football star too yet talk about the sport was hardly there. Aside from football, I like how this one is a bit different from the author's other books. The main couple isn't all over each other—aka lusting or I gotta have you now over each other—and the build-up from two former friends to starting a new friendship to finally adding the bf-gf label was really good. I love how Brady knows how to hold back given to what happened to Riley in the past. Love the kisses here and there. Every kissing scene felt so sweet.
However, I do have a few things that didn't sit well with me:
-the chapter with Rhett shouldn't have happened (like what was the point of writing him there??? He should be behind bars even since the Lawton fam finally crushed???)
-speaking of the Lawton fam, how has the family scandal not blown up yet when it's just a small town and everyone's pretty much a gossip?? They should know the truth about Riley though??
-where tf is the apology from Gunner and everyone that isn't Brady? I was really waiting a scene for between Gunner and Riley though?
-the ending was a bit rushed? I mean.. I love knowing that these two know they're IT for each other given the marriage talk. I JUST WANTED A TIME SKIP TO BRADY AND RILEY IN COLLEGE AND MAKING THEIR LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP WORK ESPECIALLY IF THIS IS THE LAST TIME WE'LL HEAR/READ FROM THEM (no idea what to expect in Nash's book but I hope Brady and Riley would still be mentioned)
Ovarall, I still had fun reading this. I just really love how Brady and Riley's relationship evolved, and it gets me all fluttery and crap everytime Brady thinks how beautiful and strong Riley is considering he treated her as the enemy back then. I need an epilogue.
*Shelving this in enemies to lover because Riley seemed to be the enemy before everyone woke up and realized they've been huge idiots and assholes towards her.

This book is like a hot cup of coffee in a very cold day. It gave me all the warm and fuzzy feelings that I did not feel in a very long time.
This book like the two others before it is deeper that it maybe appears to be. It’s more than a love story. In its core it’s a book about family and all the messy beautiful painful and essential things that comes with it.
Something about the direction of the plot that has me clutching my chest in pain because it was honest and raw and real and it could happen to any one of us and that’s what made me fall in love with the book and with the characters in it.
They are not perfect. They don’t have all their shit together and they are lost sometimes but that’s the beauty of it because that’s all of us in one point of our lives. They’re strong though and they know what they want and they work hard to get so I admired that in them
What I loved about the love story was that it made sense. It was not rushed or fake. For me, it felt natural and essential and beautiful and right.
The ending was perfect because it was the best we could get. Something was left unsaid and it opens the door to my imagination to run wild and I loved the feeling of it.
For a moment, I panicked because there’s one chapter that has me feeling like it is goodbye for me and was not ready to let go of the series. I want more books and don’t want them to stop so let’s really hope this is not the end.
Abbi Glines this by far the best series you’ve ever written so please keep writing about these characters and never let them go because I want more. I’m starved for more.
